In recent years Dodgy Clutch, as DC Events, has been concentrating increasingly on developing site-specific events, many of these on a large and spectacular scale. Newcastle City Council commissioned Dodgy Clutch to create a fantastic sculpture and spectacular event for New Year's Eve 2001.The project was a collaboration between Dodgy Clutch, Viz Comics and Geoff Laws, cartoonist and caricaturist. The final spectacular featured a 30ft high sculpture of a cartoon bus in the Haymarket in the early evening of New Years Eve. On board and bursting out of the open top were the best of Tyneside - the famous Viz characters emblazoned in costumes to suit arts and culture. However, the Grim Reaper was at the helm and the whole thing went up in a spectacular fire and pyrotechnic display. |
